Elizabeth David-Barrett is Professor of Governance and Integrity at the University of Sussex and Director of the Centre for the Study of Corruption.

Her research focuses on corruption risks at the interface of business and government, in particular in international business and public procurement. Her research on private-sector collective action to combat corruption identifies key conditions for success in changing international norms, while current work focuses on anti-corruption leadership in systemically corrupt contexts. As the Director of the Centre for the Study of Corruption, Liz leads the Centre’s activities in research, teaching and policy impact. She engages widely with anti-corruption practitioners globally, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and Europe, and advises the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office and the G20 on their international anti-corruption work.

She is also a member of the RUSI Taskforce on a Transatlantic Response to Illicit Finance (TARIF). Before becoming an academic, Liz worked as a journalist in the Balkans for The Economist and Financial Times. She has a DPhil, MSc and MA from Oxford and an MA from the University of London.
