Mark Pyman

Dr. Mark Pyman is from the United Kingdom. He is a well-known anti-corruption practitioner and advocate.

He is the founder of Curbing Corruption, a not-for-profit organisation and website that provides corruption reform strategies for public officials, sector by sector, to help them initiate reforms within their Ministries.

From 2015-2017, he was a Commissioner on Afghanistan’s independent joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, a national organisation led by a hybrid of three international and three national Commissioners. Before that, since 2004, he was the founder and director of Transparency International’s global Defence and Security Anti-Corruption Programme, where he led corruption prevention initiatives with military forces and police services in some 30 countries. In addition to this, he led the development of innovative defence sector vulnerability indexes for several countries and for large defence companies. Prior to 2004, he was Chief Financial Officer for the oil company Shell, in China and in West Africa, responsible among other matters for integrity and anti-corruption. Before joining Shell, he was a founder of Technica, a market-leading consultancy specialising in technical risk assessment.

He holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia, an MSc degree from the University of Bath, England, and a first class honours BSc from Birmingham University, England. He is also an honorary fellow in the Strategy and Security Institute at the University of Exeter.
