Monika Bauhr

Monika Bauhr is from Sweden. She is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg.

Her
research examines the causes and consequences of different forms of corruption, with a particular focus on how democratic reforms, transparency, and women’s political representation can reduce corruption and strengthen accountability. Her work has also made significant contributions to understanding how corruption shapes public attitudes toward international redistribution, climate change and public goods provision. She is co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of the Quality of Government and also develops the European Quality of Government Index (EQI), a flagship dataset that maps regional variation in government quality in all 27 EU member states. Professor Bauhr has served as Director of the Quality of Government Institute and as Scientific Coordinator and Principal Investigator of ANTICORRP (Anticorruption Policies Revisited: Global Trends and European Responses to the Challenge of Corruption), a major EU-funded, multidisciplinary research program involving 20 institutions across 15 European countries. She has held visiting appointments at Harvard University, Stanford University, the University of Florida, and the University of Dar es Salaam, and has contributed to international anticorruption networks including the Chandler Sessions on Corruption and Integrity at the University of Oxford.
